Our Lady of Mercy
The statue of Our Lady of Mercy is found opposite the Xaghra
cemetery. It is situated overlooking Victoria with a splendid view
of a wide area of Gozo. It is said that during the terrible plague
of 1814, patients prayed at this site while being treated in a nearby
farm that served as an isolation hospital.
Our Lady of Soledad
The statue of Our Lady of Soledad was put in this niche within the
fortified walls of the Citadel on 7th February 1896. It is thought
that the statue itself dates back to circa 1559.
Our Lady of Lourdes
This niche is found near Independence Square and the statue representing
Our Lady of Lourdes is made of stone. It is thought that the statue
dates back to 1900.
The annunciation of Our Lady
This niche is situated between Church Street and Main Square Street
in Ghasri. It was built
in 1773 and resembles a balcony which is supported by three coloumns.
The statue in the niche represents the Annunciation
of Our Lady. Locals are of the opinion that some sort of procession
used to take place in the past. It used to stop in front of the
niche fromwhere a priest would deliver a sermon from the balcony.
