Where is Gozo?

Gozo is the smaller of the two Maltese islands in the country of Malta. Its location in the central Mediterranean is about 4 miles (6 km) from the main island of Malta. Gozo is roughly 55 miles (90 km) south of Sicily (which can be seen from our island on very clear days) and 185 miles(300 km) north of Africa's Mediterranean coast. Gozo is located in one of the most southerly parts of Europe. At 36 degrees, Gozo is on roughly the same latitude as American cities such as Nashville TN, Las Vegas NV, Charlotte NC, and Fresno CA. Internationally, Gozo is about as far south as Athens, Greece.

Why Gozo?

Despite it's small size, Gozo has a lot to offer. Historical places are everywhere.

A visit to the Ggantija temples is a must. It is believed that these temples are even older than the Pyramids of Egypt. Actually they date back to 3.500 years B.C.

The museum of Archeology in Victoria is full of archeological remains and pre-historic artifacts. The Citadel is just a few meters away.

The folklore museum in Gharb, Xerri's Grotto, Ninu's Cave and Calypso's Cave are all in Xaghra. 'Ta Pinu' Sanctuary, where, at the turn of the century a local peasant woman had apparitions from Our Lady, is a very special and Holy Place.

Xewkija Dome dedicated to St. John the Baptist is, in one word, magnificent, 'Ta Cenc' cliffs and Dolmens, the Azure Window, the Inland Sea and the Fungus Rock all in Dwejra and Ramla Bay with it's unique red sand and the old part of the main town of Victoria are a must.

And much more...
