An
Amazing Getaway in Qala, on the Island of Gozo. If you are looking for a place where you can admire the earliest monuments of mankind, swim in crystal blue waters and walk among the most spectacular landscape, then Les Olives Farmhouses in Gozo is the ideal place for you. With Tulliera and Berwieqa farmhouses being in the village of Qala and in close proximity to the harbour, country walks and the village pjazza is the place to stay The islands’ history begins from the Neolithic period manifested in the Neolithic Ggantija temples and continues through a vast heritage dating back to various rulers who have occupied the Maltese Islands, among which are the Arabs, the Romans and the Knights. One will be greatly impressed by the fortification of the Citadel in Victoria and the numerous forts and towers situated on promontories sites on the island. For those who love the countryside and enjoy tranquil walks, various tracks lead to some of the most spectacular panoramas on the island. Gozo’s landscape is made up of terraced hills and valleys that one can visit all year through. The vegetation abounds with species of plants, flowers and trees indigenous of our countryside many of which where introduced by the Arabs during their rule on the island. Other explorative tracks lead to the coastline earmarked by rocky inlets, sandy beaches, legendary caves and the magnificent natural cliffs. In winter one can walk along the coast admiring coastal plants and trees and small streams; in summer the coastal walks can help you discover secluded beaches where you can relax and swim undisturbed. From Les Olives Farmhouses one can start a walk along the coast by starting of from the nearby beach of Hondoq ir-Rummien, walk through Dahlet Oorrot, a little fisherman niche, keep going through San Blas, a delightful sandy beach and keep walking for the red sands of Ramla Bay. It is one of the most interesting coastal walks on the southern part of the island where one can see cliffs, beaches and valleys at a glance. The southern part of the island is very fertile and rich in agriculture. One can walk through the paths all year round and appreciate the hard work of the farmers who work the land. The citrus trees in winter and the sun-ripened tomatoes and melons in summer leave you breathless. The air is pure and the views are exhilarating, the kind of break that everyone desires when one is on holiday. |
